15th Dr. Mohan’s DSC Gold Medal Oration Award conferred on Prof. Martin Silink

The Dr. Mohan’s DSC & MDRF Scientific Committee honoured Prof. Martin Silink, President of International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology, University of Sydney, Australia with the 15th Dr. Mohan’s DSC Gold Medal Oration Award on Sunday 28th January 2007 at Hotel Savera, Chennai. This Award was instituted in 1994 in order to honour distinguished international medical scientists every year and for this year, the award is bestowed on Prof. Martin Silink for his outstanding contributions in the field of diabetes, with particular reference to diabetes in childhood and adolescence. Dr. Ashok Kumar Das, Additional Director General of Health Services, Government of India, New Delhi and Director & Professor of the Department of Medicine, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry presided over the function and handed over the Gold Medal to Prof. Martin Silink. Prof. Silink delivered the Oration on the topic ‘The fight for UN resolution on diabetes’, describing how the United Nations has come to adapt the resolution on diabetes.

Dr. S. M. Sadikot Felicitated…

On this occasion, Dr. Shaukat M. Sadikot, President of DiabetesIndia and a Consultant in Endocrinology at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai was also felicitated for being elected as the Vice President of International Diabetes Federation, for his extensive contributions for the cause of diabetes and associated metabolic disorders during the past 3 decades.

 

Convocation of Fellowship Course

During this function, 19 doctors [17 interns in diabetology and 2 in ophthalmology] who completed their two-year [2004 – 2006] fellowship course at Dr. Mohan’s DSC were presented their certificates. His Highness Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, the Prince of Arcot, Dr. P. Vijayalakshmi, Former Director of Medical Education, Govt. of Tamilnadu and Rotarian. Dr. M. S. Ravi, President of Rotary Club of Madras (East) were the Guests of honour.
